Hey Trolls,
Back at you today with some new art! We are so incredibly excited to unveil this board to you; this is the 2-3 player side of the board featuring a stunning autumn environment. Check out the beautiful work of both Kwanchai Moriya and Josh Cappel, who gave this board some really special details:

The Gathering of Friends
Most of team In the Hall of the Mountain King (sorry Graeme!) will be at the Gathering of Friends beginning tomorrow night and for the rest of the week. If you'd like to play a game, come find us. We'd be happy to teach it to you.
Next Stop: Origins
We have registered In the Hall of the Mountain King to be available for demo once a day every day at Origins. Stay tuned for event registration on May 4th here.
BackerKit Status
A reminder that if you haven't already given us your address for shipping, you should! We want to make sure that your game gets to you.
BackerKit surveys are closed. At the moment, the only thing that can be changed is your address. These will not close until we have to start collecting addresses for fulfillment.
Another reminder ... we will be charging your credit cards on April 20th.

Progress and Promos!

Hey Trolls!
It might seem like it's been pretty quiet around here, but I assure you that everyone has been hard at work tweaking the rules, preparing art and graphic design for various components, and getting the game ready for the sample to be made. While we are busy making this game happen, we've got some great news for you.
Tantrum House Promo Cards
That's right backers!! Before this game even goes to press, we've decided to get you some promo cards though the Tantrum House Season 6 Kickstarter campaign. If you don't know what Tantrum House is, you should. They publish incredibly high-quality YouTube reviews and Kickstarter previews, host a weekly podcast, as well as record LIVE videos where they discuss topics related to the board gaming hobby. We usually go to them first when we are deciding if we are going to purchase a game.
As many of you know, Burnt Island and our sibling company KTBG has a great relationship with Tantrum House. We LOVE what they do, and they love what we do. They have been incredibly helpful to us over the years. So, in return, we're giving them 2 In the Hall of the Mountain King promo cards that you will only be able to get through them. We decided to make two unique Level-2 Troll cards, one from the Fire Clan, and one from the Ice Clan (see below).
While Kwanchai poured his skill into the art of these Trolls, Jay and Graeme tested intensely to make sure that their powers were balanced, interesting, and fun to use. Below are just two (you didn't think we'd give all to you at one time, did you!?) of the seven game-changing Champions. Meet Henja Shatterstone and Gharak Who Sees No Stone. We think that Kwanchai knocked these out of the park. What do you think? Tell us what you think in the comments of this update!
Recently we backed Endangered, by Grand Gamers Guild (our partner on Endeavor: Age of Sail) and designed by Joe Hopkins, with art by Beth Sobel and Ben Flores. We backed the game not because we love Grand Gamers Guild, but because, well, look at it!! It is a beautiful cooperative dice placement and action selection game where you play as conservationists working to save endangered species. What we love the most is that if you back at the Centre Supporter level, The Centre for Biological Diversity will also get a copy as part of your pledge, to use in their educational initiatives. This is amazing!! Check it out here.

Survey Day

Hey Trolls,
Well the smoke test went off without a hitch. That was exciting for us. It meant that we were able to send the rest of the surveys out a few hours early. Here are our first observations based on your feedback:
Retail Store Backers
We've sent the survey out to you just to get your address. We'll be contacting you before the games ship for the balance of your payment (which will happen through PayPal).
Surveys Locked/Credit Cards Charged
Many of you want an extension on your surveys being locked. We ask for the surveys to be locked so soon so that we can tell the manufacturer how many games to make. It is really important for us to have an accurate number so that we make enough to cover all of your pledges. For us, this is a firm date. However, we are going to extend the deadline for credit cards being charged. Our new date for charging your credit cards is April 20th at 8pm EST.
Add-Ons
All deluxe version of the game include metal coins and plastic bits. However, the resources and the troll shapes for the score track are wooden. If you want to use wooden bits instead of plastics (pedestals, statues, carts, and hammers), please add-on the wooden bits. You do not need them to play the game. But if you prefer wood, that's the way to go.
Deluxe games also include the metal coins. There have been many questions about the coins. 35 has been enough to get through every game that we have played. We don't anticipate that you will ever need more. However, if you want more, please go ahead and add them on too!
Our Next Update
We are so close to releasing the rest of the art for the game. Final tweaks are being made. It is so beautiful. We're really excited about it. Stay tuned!!

BackerKit Surveys Going Out and Updates

Hi Trolls,
Well, you've waited long enough! Today we sent out our first round of BackerKit surveys. This round is called the smoke test. BackerKit does this so that if there are any glaring issues with the survey they can be fixed before the majority of surveys go out. This means that 5% (215) of backers are going to get their surveys within the next 24 hours. If no issues are found, the rest of you will receive your surveys soon after.
What is in This Survey?
First and foremost, the survey is sent to you to collect your address and to charge you a shipping fee for your games. If you are curious about your shipping fee, please see the campaign page for prices. Here you will also be able to tell us what you'd like your pledge to go toward. If you'd like to add anything on, this will be the time to do it. We will also ask you a couple of questions in the survey.
Dates
At the moment we have several dates set. They aren't set in stone, because things change from time to time while making a game. Here are the ones we can tell you about:
March 22: Surveys go out to the remainder of backers
April 5: Surveys locked (but not addresses)
April 5: Credit cards charged
December: Games to be shipped to backers
Where We're At
As always, Jay and Graeme have been doing a lot of testing to make sure that the Champions and the solo/coop mode are in perfect condition. Kwanchai is just about finished his work on the double sided mountain board, the Champions, and the player mats. By the next update we'll have some of those images for you.
We believe that within the next two weeks we'll be submitting files to the manufacturer so that they can make a sample for us. That process will take several weeks, and a couple more to get to us. Once they do, we'll tell them what needs to change. Hopefully at that point it will be small things (or nothing at all). At this point we'll take photos and send them to you. We'll then send the game to print. After that it's just a waiting game.
In the Hall of the Mountain King at Conventions
Over the last week or so Mountain King has made it to two different conventions. We started at GAMA Trade show in Reno, and ended at BreakOut Con in Toronto. We had several demos of the game. All were played through to the end. The feedback we got was AMAZING! We are even more excited to bring this game to you.

Wrapping it All Up

Hey Trolls,
I hope you've had a relaxing few days of not refreshing your screen. I've been phantom refreshing as we like to call it over here at BIG headquarters. I'm writing today to tell you about our next steps and the process from here until December when you get your games. This is an important update that you might want to keep handy for future reference. Let's get started.
What Happens on Kickstarter Now?
Right now Kickstarter is working through charging your credit cards for In the Hall of the Mountain King. This takes about a week or so to sort out. Some of you have already been charged. Some of you have expired credit cards, or invalid credit card numbers. Kickstarter will email you every 48 hours for two weeks until you either fix your credit card information or the two weeks runs out. If your card is not charged through Kickstarter, you're taken off of the backer list and you are not considered a backer anymore. So make sure that you get it all sorted ASAP.
After Kickstarter, We Move to BackerKit
To organize your pledge information, your address, and your shipping charges, we are using a platform called BackerKit. Approximately two weeks from now (up to 3 weeks) I will send out a survey to you from BackerKit. In this survey you'll answer a few short questions that will give us some data about your pledge. Some of you may already know this, but BackerKit treats your Kickstarter pledge as a credit. BackerKit does not assume to know what items you pledged for. For that reason, the survey will ask you what items you want for your pledge and then it will add shipping. If you are unsure about shipping costs to your country, you can find it at the bottom of the Kickstarter page.
Closing Surveys
Typically surveys are closed about 2 weeks after they are sent out. When I send out the surveys, I'll give you several important dates, including the day surveys we be closed, the day your credit cards will be charged for add-ons (if you have added anything extra in BackerKit), as well as for your shipping. This information is very important, so please make sure to keep an eye out for that update.

Here is Zach's introduction to his Troll: Dohrin makes his living selling shiny rocks. He’s not sure why the other Trolls want to buy the shiny rocks. It doesn’t matter to him, though. If other Trolls want to spend gold on shiny rocks, he’ll keep finding them.

We've all been waiting a long time for this. Here is a close up of the new resource icons... the silhouettes of the deluxe resource bits act as a nice reinforcement of which mineral is which, and they are subtle enough that they won't distract owners of the retail cube version.
